Cabaye keen for Bosnia clash

France’s Yohan Cabaye is aiming to play against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Tuesday, despite picking up an ankle injury.

Cabaye suffered the injury late in the first half of Friday’s Euro 2012 qualifier 3-0 win over Albania, and despite beginning the second period, the former Lille man was substituted two minutes later.

The 25-year-old Newcastle United midfielder is desperate to recover for the final qualifying match in Paris, with Laurent Blanc’s side needing just a point to secure their place in next year’s tournament in Poland and Ukraine.

Speaking to the French Football Federation’s official website, Cabaye said: “I hope I will be fit for Tuesday and that this game does not pass me by.”

“My left ankle got stamped on. I didn’t want to take the risk and came off.”

“I will have tests, I don’t know whether it is a sprain or a bad bruise but it was very painful and I couldn’t carry on like that.”

While manager Blanc jumped to the defence of Cabaye over the injury, the 45-year-old appears to be running out of patience with Manchester United full-back Patrice Evra, who also picked up a knock in Friday’s clash.

“He (Cabaye) took a heavy blow on his ankle. Our Albanian friends shook us up well,” Blanc said.

“Every time he (Evra) has come to see me, it has been to tell me about another withdrawal. And if he gets injured after five minutes, what do you do?” he continued.

“That would put the team at risk, and I hate that.”
