Australia’s Tim Cahill added to Everton’s midfield problems when it was announced Friday he could be out of action for up to three weeks.

Cahill was forced off with a calf injury during the Merseysiders’ Europa League win over Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday.

His absence is a fresh blow to manager David Moyes ahead of Saturday’s Premier League match against champions Manchester United at Goodison Park.

Everton discovered this week that they would be without Belgian international midfielder Marouane Fellaini for the rest of the season with an ankle injury.

But the Toffees will have South Africa’s Steven Pienaar back from suspension against United on Saturday.
