New Chelsea signing Gary Cahill says joining the London club is the best move he could have made for his career.
The 26-year-old England defender, who signed on Monday for around seven million pounds from Bolton, was officially unveiled at Chelsea’s Cobham training centre on Friday.
Cahill could make his Chelsea debut against Norwich City in the Premier League on Saturday, and he said he had enjoyed getting to know his new team-mates.
“I suppose it’s the same as when you move to any new place, you’re just trying to find your feet around the training ground and get to know the lads and the staff,” Cahill said.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it and training has been good and I’m just looking forward to bedding in now.”
“It was a fantastic career opportunity for me moving forward, you always strive to be at the top of your game and I think coming to Chelsea has given me that opportunity.”
“Every competition they go into they look to win, (there is) Champions League football, so like I said, moving forward in my career it’s a fantastic opportunity and one that I wasn’t going to turn down.”
Cahill said working alongside players of the calibre of his new captain John Terry would help to improve his game, and he added that playing for a team with Chelsea’s style of play would be refreshing.
“I think it’s exciting for me to come and see the top centre-halves at this club and work with the likes of JT (Terry),” he said.
“It’s only going to improve my game and that’s another reason, going back to the first question of why I moved here. I think for my progression to keep going upwards, it was important for me to come to a club where there is such fantastic players.”
“I’m jumping from a team who is possibly under a lot of pressure who don’t really have too much of the ball, (I’m) not being disrespectful but that’s how it is.”
“Moving to Chelsea where you’re in possession and you’re on the front foot all the time, I think that will help me.”
“I’m hoping that it will make my job easier playing with fantastic players around you so we’ll wait and see and see if that happens.”
