Everton midfielder Tim Cahill will miss the start of the Premier League season as the Australian continues his slow recovery from a broken foot.
Cahill had hoped to be fit for pre-season training but Everton manager David Moyes confirmed the 28-year-old won't be fully fit in time for the opener against Blackburn at Goodison Park on August 16.
The former Millwall player originally underwent surgery for the metatarsal injury last year but it flared up against West Ham in March.
Moyes, who is also waiting for striker James Vaughan to return to fitness, said: “James Vaughan is coming on all the time but it is a slow process with him. It is the same for Tim Cahill and I am not expecting him to be fit for the start of the season.
“He is going over to Australia to see the specialist for a last check but it is so far, so good.”
