Bolton defender Gary Cahill says he is happy to be part of the England camp this week to take his mind off his club’s domestic struggles.
The centre-back was linked with Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal in the off-season transfer window but failed to secure a move away.
Now Cahill has seen his side struggle for form, with Bolton sitting 18th in the Premier League, but the former Aston Villa man is looking forward to his involvement for England in their friendly against Spain on Saturday at Wembley.
“It’s been a rollercoaster season for me, and it’s been really tough at club level,” Cahill said.
“But at international level it’s been great, as we’ve qualified (for Euro 2012) and done really well. It’s been difficult personally. I need to get back fully focused and play the way I know I can.”
Cahill’s contract expires at the end of the season, making his performances vital as he looks to impress Fabio Capello and possibly other teams.
But the 25-year-old insists he is committed to Bolton and is aware it is his club performances that will lead to international opportunities.
“What is my view on my future? Who knows? I just want to concentrate on what I’m doing,” he said.
“I’ve done that and I feel like I’ve gone about my business in a professional way. I just play football and try to give 110 percent for Bolton Wanderers.”
“It’s well documented that I’m out of contract at the end of the season but that’s just the situation I’m in and I will continue to give 110 percent until anything happens. We’ll have to wait and see.”
“Of course my aim is to play at the highest possible level and to play there consistently.”
