Calum Chambers enjoying life at Arsenal

England international defender Calum Chambers is absolutely delighted with the start he has made to his Arsenal career following a £16 million move from Southampton.

England international defender Calum Chambers is absolutely delighted with the start he has made to his Arsenal career following a £16 million summer move from Southampton.

Chambers, 19, has taken advantage of Mathieu Debuchy’s absence due to injury and immediately established himself in the Gunners’ first-team.

Not only is the 19-year-old a first-teamer at Arsenal, but he is also cementing a role with the England national team.

Regarding the start he has made to life in North London, Chambers said: “It’s gone so well, I’ve got to say thank you to everyone that’s welcomed me in.

“All the staff, the players, they have made it easier to make the transfer from Southampton to Arsenal. They’ve welcomed me with open arms and that has really helped me.

“I’m just happy to play. Wherever I’m put, I will do the best I can. I feel fine, I’m enjoying it.

“I want to push myself and improve my [goal-scoring] tally. Also, I want to get more assists. I’ve got to keep pushing myself throughout the season.

“As a full-back you want to be pushing on more, get a few more goals, assists and get forward more during the game.

“I’ve got to keep pushing myself hard week-in and week-out to improve.”

After going seven consecutive matches in all competitions without keeping a clean sheet, the Gunners have now managed the feat in three straight, including back-to-back English Premier League triumphs over Burnley and Sunderland.

“It’s vital to get clean sheets,” added Chambers.

“That’s almost as good as scoring. We’re really pleased with the clean sheets we’ve got so far and we’re building up some momentum now.”

Chambers, who only faces competition at right-back from Spanish starlet Hector Bellerin, has tallied one goal and two assists in 12 appearances for Arsenal this season.

Henderson hopes Gerrard stays at Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson is hoping captain fantastic Steven Gerrard decides to stay at Anfield for “many years to come.”

Gerrard has already hinted he may leave Anfield when his contract expires in the summer, and it appears the Reds have yet to offer him a new deal.

If Gerrard were to leave Liverpool, where would that leave the club? The answer: to be determined. Rest assured, it will surely not help the Reds’ cause.

“Stevie is a massive player for us,” said Henderson. “He is our captain, our leader and a great role model for a lot of younger lads.

“Hopefully he will be a very big player for us for many years to come.”
