Mainz striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting says Cameroon are missing their former captain Samuel Eto’o.
Eto’o is serving an eight-month suspension following a match boycott last November.
The 23-year-old German-born player, who switched allegiance to Cameroon in 2010, told reporters after the Indomitable Lions’ unimpressive 1-0 victory against Guinea Bissau in 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying that the absence of the four-time African football of the year had left a hole.
“We are all missing Eto’o. We used to have a very good time with him before his suspension and the team was in good shape, but now you can feel that somebody is not there. We’re really missing him,” Choupo-Moting said.
“I used to score goals through his assists. The setup used to do wonderful things with him. We miss him and we need him,” he said.
Cameroon coach Denis Lavagne is still facing criticism after the lacklustre performances of late, with fans calling for the return of the Anzhi Makhachkala star.
