Veteran Italy midfielder Mauro Camoranesi’s proposed switch from Juventus to Birmingham City has stalled due to taxes, the player’s agent Sergio Fortunato said Thursday.
The 34-year-old has had positive talks with the Premier League club’s Scottish manager Alex McLeish, but Fortunato says the deal may fall through because of money matters.
“Nothing has been concluded,” he told Calciomercato.it, a website specialising in transfer dealings.
“At the moment we’re not talking with Birmingham, the two clubs are talking to try to find a solution.
“We don’t need to convince anyone, everything is arranged with Juventus, we have an agreement. It’s a tax problem, they offer you one but then unfortunately it becomes half.
“Mauro has already spoken with the manager McLeish at the stadium, and said he got on well with him.
“If there’s a chance to go to Birmingham, good, if he has to miss out on this transfer, we’ll wait for others.”
At Juventus, Camoranesi is believed to be earning 3.5 million euros a season, after taxes, and has one year left on his current deal.
He said towards the end of last season that he would only consider moving if he could match his salary and find a club of a similar level.
Juventus are keen to shed him from their wage bill as they try to bring in new and younger players to help regenerate a team that last season suffered their worst ever campaign in Serie A.
