Sol Campbell has emerged as a contender to become the new manager of non-league Maidstone United, according to Talksport.
The former Arsenal and England defender is favourite with bookmakers to be named as the new manager of the National League side following Jay Saunders’ departure.
Campbell has his UEFA Pro Licence and is keen to get into management despite struggling to land a role thus far.
The forty-three-year-old retired from playing professional football in 2012 having played over five hundred times in the Premier League in spells with Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Portsmouth and Newcastle United.
His most successful stint came with the Gunners, where he won two league titles and two FA Cups, while he also lifted the League Cup with Spurs and the FA Cup with Pompey.
Internationally, he was capped seventy-three times for his country with his one and only England goal coming in a 1-1 draw with Sweden at the 2002 World Cup finals in Japan and South Korea.
