Campeonato Paulista leaders Corinthians lost 1-0 at home to Ponte Preta on Wednesday, while Santos beat Portuguesa 3-0.
Former Fluminense striker Everton Santos struck the winner for visitors Ponte Preta in the 57th minute at Estadio Municipal Paulo Machado de Carvalho.
Corinthians remain top on goal difference, but Santos are now level with the league leaders following their comprehensive victory over mid-table Portuguesa.
Neymar struck a brace either side of half-time, before Leo completed the scoring for the hosts in the 67th minute.
Goals from Jorge Valdivia and Vinicius saw Palmeiras stage a late comeback to win 2-1 away to Noroeste.
The hosts, who had led early on through Giovanni’s goal, finished with 10 men after Matheus received a second yellow card just before the hour mark.
The victory takes Palmeiras into third at the expense of Mirassol, who went down 4-1 away to Sao Bernardo.
Mombinha scored twice and Reinaldo was also on target in the space of 10 minutes as Sao Bernardo blitzed their visitors in the first half.
Bragantino let a two goal lead slip to 2-2 away to Gremio Prudente, but late goals from Carlos Roberto and Nego guided the away team to a 4-2 victory.
Vitor Hugo’s second-half strike helped Santo Andre beat Americana 1-0 at home, while a 61st-minute equaliser from Lourival Assis helped Botafogo SP secure a 1-1 draw at home to Sao Caetano.
Pedrao was on target as struggling Linense managed a rare win, beating Mogi Mirim 1-0 away from home.
