Brazilian clubs Sao Paulo, Palmeiras and Santos have all booked their Campeonato Paulista quarter-final spots after Sunday’s action.
Sao Paulo finished top of the table following their 1-1 draw with Oeste, who are also through to the final eight, while Palmeiras relinquished top spot following their 2-1 loss to Ponte Preta.
Reinaldo de Souza opened the scoring in the 39th minute for Oeste at the Estadio Romildo Vitor Gomes Ferreira, but Sao Paulo equalised midway through the second half through striker Henrique.
Sao Paulo’s quarter-final opponents will be Portuguesa, who edged out the relegated Sao Bernardo 1-0, while Oeste will meet the third-placed Corinthians, who notched their first win in four games with a 2-1 defeat of Santo Andre, who were dumped into the Paulista’s second tier.
Palmeiras’ quarter-final opponents, Mirassol, went down 3-0 to Botafogo while Ponte Preta will lock horns with Santos in the final eight, after the defending champions scored their second win in succession, defeating Paulista 3-0.
Elsewhere, Noroeste lose their top flight status after they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Ituano, who narrowly avoided relegation.
Gremio Prudente’s 1-0 win over Americana was not enough to save their top-flight status in the Paulista, while Linense beat Sao Caetano 2-0 and Mogi Mirim netted a 3-2 victory over Bragantino.
