Gremio Prudente remain on the bottom of Brazil’s Campeonato Paulista table after suffering a 1-0 away defeat at the hands of Sao Caetano on Friday.
Midfielder Ailton scored the only goal of the game after just seven minutes to give Sao Caetano their first victory of the season, while Gremio had defender Rodrigo Arroz dismissed just before the final whistle to compound a miserable night.
Elsewhere on Friday, Sao Paulo climbed to fourth with a 3-2 win over Linense at the Estadio Cicero Pompeu de Toledo.
Linense took the lead thanks to a strike from Eric six minutes after half-time, but the hosts responded with goals to Rivaldo, Marlos and Rogerio Ceni to take a 3-1 lead before Allesandro scored an injury time consolation for Linense.
And a hat-trick from striker Juninho Quixado handed Bragantino a 3-0 win over Sao Bernardo, lifting them into eighth place with two wins and three draws from their six matches.
