Oeste were just as clinical at home to Sao Caetano, with Fabio Santos notching a hat-trick to guide the Itapolis club to a first-up victory.
Santos broke a 0-0 deadlock in the 38th minute then scored twice in three minutes over the hour to put the result beyond doubt.
Top-flight relegated outfit Gremio Prudente struggled at Sao Bernardo, going down 3-1 after conceding goals to Elionar Bombinha (40), Danielzinho (62) and Reinaldo (69).
Former America attacker Jandson struck Prudente’s lone goal in the 80th minute.
Finally, Botafogo fought out a 0-0 draw at Serie A club Palmeiras.
