Sao Paulo and Corinthians both recorded victories in Sunday’s Campeonato Paulista action, while Palmeiras dropped off the pace.

The trio of title contenders were all locked on 31 points heading into Sunday’s fixtures and it was Corinthians who remained on top of the league with a 1-0 home win against Americana.

Portuguese striker Liedson scored the game’s only goal to condemn Americana to their fifth straight defeat.

The forward has been in inspired form since signing from Sporting Lisbon and has now scored nine goals in eight matches for the club.

Sao Paulo remain behind Corinthians on goal difference after their 1-0 win away at Gremio Prudente.

Substitute Henrique scored just three minutes after coming off the bench to secure the victory.

Palmeiras, meanwhile, were held to a 1-1 draw by Sao Caetano.

Kleber put Palmeiras in front after just six minutes but any hopes of a routine victory were quashed when Artur found the back of the net half-an-hour later.

In Sunday’s other matches, Sao Bernardo FC won 2-0 at Linense courtesy of strikes from Junior Xuxa and an Andre Turatto, while Val’s 25th minute goal was enough to hand Mogi Mirim a 1-0 away win at Ituano.
