Can David Moyes sign the right players for Manchester United?

Can David Moyes signed the required quality of player to Manchester United this summer?

Can David Moyes signed the required quality of player for Manchester United this summer?

Manchester United boss David Moyes officially started his job on 1st July. Already critics are attacking the Scot for not bringing in fresh faces to Old Trafford.

United were expected to bring in a host of new players this summer, but as of yet no new faces have arrived at United, under Moyes.

Competition

United ran away with the Premier League title last season. However, everybody connected with the Red Devils knew that their rivals would heavily strengthen this summer.

City and Chelsea have already shown their intent for the new season by appointing highly-regarded bosses.

Chelsea knew that appointing serial league winner Jose Mourinho would give them an extra edge. The Blues boss has brought in highly-rated youngster Marco van Ginkel and Andre Schurrle, while they also brought in a very decent back-up keeper in the shape of veteran Aussie Mark Schwarzer.

The trio are unlikely to be the only new faces in the Blues squad next season. The Portuguese boss will be given more transfer funds if he feels he needs to bring in any new players into an already exciting Chelsea squad.

Even prior to the appointment of new boss Manuel Pellegrini, Manchester City were working on strengthening their squad. City had already purchased Jesus Navas from Sevilla and Fernandinho from Shakhtar Donetsk for a believed figure of around £50million.

Both players should add quality to the Manchester City team next season. City are unlikely to stop at those two signings though. The Citizens will be looking to bring in a striker to replace the departed Carls Tevez, who left for Juventus earlier this summer.

Ironically, both Chelsea and City have been linked with moves for prolific Napoli and Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani. However, Azzurri’s price tag for the striker seems to be putting the English duo off, despite the millions believed to be available to both managers.

‘Dithering Davy’

While at Everton David Moyes earned the rather insulting nickname of ‘Dithering Davy’, because of the amount of time he used to take to identify transfer targets and sign them. However, many would argue that with a tight budget at Goodison he had to be sure if the players were right for the Toffees.

This often meant that Everton missed out on players that could have strengthened their team. The Everton board were blamed for Everton’s failure in the transfer market. Looking at how new Everton boss Roberto Martinez has operated so far at Goodison, it seems to point to the fact that it was Moyes holding the transfers up, not the Everton hierarchy.

The Scot must know that he is now in a different league, money wise that is. When he got the job, he must have been looking forward to signing quality players and spending a bit more cash than he was allowed to at Everton.

Time

United fans may want to see new players arriving at Old Trafford, but it seems right that David Moyes is taking his time in assessing the players he has available to him ahead of the new season. I am sure that he knows a lot about them already, but has not had a chance to work with most of them.

If by the end of the transfer window United have not signed anybody then the fans would have cause for concern. United may have won the league last season by quite a distance, but the Red Devils still need to strengthen their squad.

Their squad from last season certainly would not have been good enough to win the Champions League, even if Nani would not have been sent-off against Real Madrid.

Priority

Moyes’ priority signing has to be a central midfielder. United have needed a strong central midfielder for a while now. Paul Scholes has now called time on his playing career and Ryan Giggs appearances will be rarer next season.

United are believed to be interested in signing Barcelona starlet Thiago Alcantara. The young Spanish international has a release clause in his contract of around £15million. He is highly-rated and at £15million could prove a snip.

He is the sort of player that would provide the perfect ammunition for the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie next season. I just hope for United’s sake that Moyes does not leave it too late and miss signing the talented star.

Comfortable

I sense that David Moyes is only just getting comfortable in his new surroundings. I am sure Moyes will sign players that will strengthen his squad. Whether United will be strong enough to retain their crown will be another matter.

Will David Moyes sign the right players for Manchester United?

Les than 2 weeks before the EPL starts and no signings….I am really concerned Moyes was the right choice. If one does not know how to invest 100 million in players…he does not belong to Man Utd. he needs to get his act together …really soon

Forget signing. This is Manchester United, where we grow our superstars more than we buy them.

Only time will tell. All the new managerial appointments at the top clubs are a gamble. Even at Chelsea with Mourinho going back for a second stint.

I feel that United and City are the two that will have most to prove. I feel Mourinho will have Chelsea ticking over quite nicely, but I think Moyes in particular may struggle under the pressure that comes with the United job. EVERY big game he lost at Everton. Just listen to the fans. He is VERY defensive minded and it is a gamble giving his the hot seat.

Moyes may be a superb manager, but he may also be the biggest mistake that United have made in a long, long time.
