Everton missed a fantastic opportunity to put pressure on sixth-placed Manchester United last weekend, suffering a 3-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur while their competitors were held to draw.
But the Toffees have a chance to make up ground on the Red Devils if they can beat West Bromwich Albion in Saturday’s Premier League clash.
United aren’t playing their respective game due to their FA Cup commitments, leaving Everton to potentially go within two points of catching Jose Mourinho’s side if they can dispatch of Albion.
Everton formidable on home soil
Ronald Koeman’s Everton side are currently seventh in the Premier League table with 44 points from 27 games, boasting four consecutive wins at Goodison Park. The Toffees have lost just once in their own backyard this season – December’s Merseyside derby defeat to rivals Liverpool – and will fancy their chances against West Brom as a result.
Everton have picked up impressive results at home to stellar clubs this season, amassing points to the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City. Koeman’s side seldom concede a goal at home either, keeping three clean sheets from their last four in their own backyard. And with only one top-half side besting them at Goodison, West Brom don’t stand much of a chance.
Everton’s results at home versus Premier League top-six
(13/8/16) Everton 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur
(4/12/16) Everton 1-1 Manchester United
(13/12/16) Everton 2-1 Arsenal
(19/12/16) Everton 0-1 Liverpool
(15/1/17) Everton 4-0 Manchester City
West Brom struggling on the road
Everton’s chances are greatly improved with West Bromwich Albion struggling for form on their travels this season. Tony Pulis’ men are only one place and four points worse off than Everton in the Premier League table, but the Baggies have considerably worse form away from home which could prove telling. Albion have picked up only three wins on the road this season, one from their last seven, and could fall short as a result.
What’s worse is that West Brom’s poor away results have come against sides lower down in the Premier League table – Sunderland, West Ham United and Middlesbrough among others. The Midlands outfit don’t have a good record in this fixture either – suffering three defeats and a draw from their last five Premier League meetings. Everton are 8/13 to win against West Bromwich Albion in Saturday’s Premier League meeting at Goodison Park.
So can the Toffees bounce back?
