Can Steve Kean keep Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League?

After getting two historic results at Anfield and Old Trafford in late December, Steve Kean’s Blackburn Rovers have lost two straight Premier League games versus Stoke City and Newcastle United.

Kean has seemingly been under pressure all season, and perhaps rightfully so.

Struggles at Ewood Park

One would presume that a club like Blackburn would be significantly better at home than away from Ewood Park, but that is simply not the case for Rovers.

Steve Kean’s side have lost eight of their ten home games, tallying a meager six points out of a possible thirty in front of their home supporters.

Despite featuring powerful center-back Chris Samba in defence, Blackburn have conceded an astounding 21 goals at home, which is the second highest in the Premier League to Bolton Wanderers, who have allowed a whopping 24 goals on their home pitch.

Home or Away?

One explanation for Blackburn’s woeful home record could be the lack of support from their fans.

More often than not, Rovers supporters have booed their own club, creating an away atmosphere at Ewood Park.

But in all honesty, the more reasonable explanation is that Blackburn are just not a very good side.

Diamond in the Rough

Former Everton striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has been Blackburn Rovers’ player of the season in 2011-12.

To be honest, Yakubu could go the rest of the season without scoring another goal and still claim the award.

That’s how good he has been, and that’s how bad the rest of the club have been.

“The Yak” has bagged 12 goals and one assist in 15 Premier League appearances for Blackburn this season.

The club’s next highest scorer is David Hoilett, who has netted three goals and four assists in 16 matches.

I think it’s safe to say that Yakubu is the best goal-scorer on Blackburn Rovers.

Managerial Controversy

For those of you that have not heard, Steve Kean is not too popular amongst Blackburn’s supporters.

In fact, the club’s not-so-loyal supporters have been urging Rovers’ ownership to sack Kean all season long.

If Blackburn continue to drop points in bunches, Kean will surely be sacked.

Relegation Battle

Considering all of the controversy that has surrounded the club this season, Blackburn still have a legitimate chance of avoiding relegation and staying in England’s top-flight.

Rovers, who are bottom of the table at the moment, have just 14 points, while Wigan Athletic and Bolton Wanderers have 15 and 16 respectively.

The goods news for Blackburn is that they are within three points of possibly moving up to 16th in the table.

In addition, Rovers have a better goal-difference than Wigan (19th place) , Bolton (18th place) and QPR (17th place).

The bad news is that after all of this analysis, Blackburn are still bottom of the table.

Steve Kean’s hot seat has reached its boiling point. Unfortunately for Kean, his seat will surely have melted away by May.
