Can Tottenham now find some consistent form?

Tottenham looked to have acted wisely in their choice for a new manager in the shape of Argentinian Mauricio Pochettino in the summer.

The former-Espanyol boss had a clear and noticeable football philosophy at Southampton.

The Saints earned rave reviews under Pochettino and it was always going to be hard for the Saints to hold onto their highly-rated boss after he turned the team into such a good watch.

Mixed

Tottenham host Newcastle on Sunday at White Hart Lane in ninth position, with three wins, two draws and three defeats in the English top-flight this season.

It is fair to say that Spurs have not yet found their rhythm under Pochettino.

Everybody thought that the Argentinian would just transfer his philosophy to a Spurs squad with a lot of talented players, arguably considered a better group than he had at Southampton.

That talented group of players were expensively assembled in the summer of 2013 and it was thought that all they needed was the right man to find a winning formula. Pochettino looks to have the potential to find that winning formula.

At the moment things are not quite going Spurs’ way, but as Pochettino showed at Southampton the Argentinian has the managerial acumen to produce a winning team in north London.

Potential

In the Europa League Tottenham gave a glimpse of what they can do on Thursday night with a 5-1 home victory over Asteras Tripoli, albeit it against inferior opposition. Pochettino’s compatriot Erik Lamela has looked like a talented player in Europe this season.

However, the playmaker has struggled to find his top form in the Premier League. Lamela scored a world-class goal against Asteras and showed flashes of why Spurs paid a potential fee of £30million to Roma to sign the player.

The 22-year-old was outstanding at Roma in Serie A and looked like a possible world-class talent. He was something of a child prodigy in his days as a River Plate player in his homeland, scoring a lot of goals and looking a class above his contemporaries.

His first season in English football was interrupted by a host of injuries and he seemingly struggled to adapt to life in England. Lamela is a naturally skilful player and if he works hard then he may just start fulfilling his enormous potential at White Hart Lane.

Youngster

Young English forward Harry Kane is another young player that has a lot of potential. The England under-21 international has hardly featured in the first team in the Premier League, but scored a hat-trick against Asteras on Thursday night.

Kane even went in goal for a few minutes against Asteras after keeper Hugo Lloris saw red. I believe that the youngster will be forgiven for conceding a goal after his goal scoring exploits.

Consistency

Spurs were expected to be challengers for the Champions League positions at the start of the season, but are currently odds of 24/5 to finish in the top four. However, Spurs have struggled to find consistency in their performances this season.

They are the sort of team that blow and hot and cold at times. The likes of Lamela, Nacer Chadli and Christian Eriksen have the ability to cause teams big problems from their attacking midfield roles, but seem to be inconsistent.

If they could hit top form then Spurs could be deadly going forward. Youngster Harry Kane may even have a part in Spurs finding their form.

Winnable

The team from north London now have a run of very winnable games coming up. No games are easy ones in the Premier League, but Spurs fans will be looking for their team to put together a good run of form in the next month or so.

Tottenham seem to be the kings of the unpredictable in recent seasons, so you just never know what you are going to get. Hopefully for Spurs fans their team can now start hitting top form, because that Spurs squad does have a lot of potential just ready to be fulfilled.
