Inter Milan will only be able to keep hold of Joao Cancelo if the team qualify for the Champions League, according to sporting director Piero Ausilio.
The Nerazzurri are facing financial difficulty at the moment and it is crucial that they achieve a top 4 finish in Serie A if they want to reinforce the squad in the summer.
Sitting one point behind third-placed AS Roma and Lazio in fourth, Inter are 21/20 to finish in top 4, and one of the first moves if they succeed in that quest would be to trigger a €35 million buy out clause for Joao Cancelo.
“Cancelo? We’ll make a decision on keeping him once the season is out, seeing whether we qualify for the Champions League or not,” Ausilio told Radio Anch’io Sport.
“However, these are just economic assessments and not technical ones. There’s no doubt about the player’s quality.”
Even though he needed a while to hit the ground running, Joao Cancelo has impressed of late, producing 1 goal and 2 assists in 22 league appearances.
