(GSM) – Fabio Cannavaro has admitted he’s disappointed he’s not able to finish his career at his beloved Napoli.

The Italy captain, who will move to Dubai to play for Al-Ahli after the World Cup, would have jumped at the opportunity to play for his hometown club at the San Paolo alongside his brother Paolo.

“I would have gone there for free but there was not even any negotiations,” claimed Cannavaro in an interview with Italian magazine “Chi”.

“It’s hard to believe, the fans don’t understand it either but Napoli simply did not want me.

“I really wanted to go back and I was sending messages for a long time but no one picked up on it.”

The 36-year-old centre-half also discussed his Italy career, which looks set to come to an end at the end of the World Cup.

“This shirt means so much to me and I have been wearing it for 13 years,” added Cannavaro.

“I have lots of great memories. Many said I was too small to be a footballer. So many times people said I wasn’t good enough.

“But I always proved myself and brought the World Cup back in 2006. Indeed, I will miss the Azzurri shirt one day.”
