Fabio Cannavaro has predicted AC Milan will win the Scudetto this season, and said he is ‘not surprised’ by Inter Milan’s troubles.
Cannavaro, 37, is keeping a close watch on the Serie A from his new home at Al-Ahli in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates League team he joined in June.
Milan moved three points clear at the top with a 3-0 victory over Brescia on Saturday, and the former Juventus defender believes glory awaits Massimiliano Allegri and his squad this term.
“This season is very balanced. It’s not easy to pick a favourite, but I think Milan can win the Scudetto,” Cannavaro said.
“That’s because they have signed a player like Zlatan Ibrahimovic who can really make the difference.”
Juventus are third on the table, nine points behind Milan with a game in hand, while Inter have slipped a further point back in sixth and appear destined to relinquish their hold on the Italian trophy.
“The Bianconeri (Juve) have drastically reduced the average age of their squad, so it will take a little patience to get the best out of them. It is a shame they went out of the Europa League,” Cannavaro said.
“As for the Nerazzurri (Inter), their crisis doesn’t surprise me. After a stratospheric season in which they won the treble, it’s only natural that the body and mind relax a little.”
“They are also struggling with the many injuries that have hit the squad.”
