Cantona: Ferguson one of the greats

Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has labelled Sir Alex Ferguson as ‘one of the greatest managers in the world’.

United honoured their long-serving manager by officially renaming the north stand of Old Trafford ‘The Sir Alex Ferguson Stand’ on Saturday, before the Scot celebrated his 25-year anniversary as manager with a 1-0 home win over Sunderland.

And Cantona, who won four Premier League titles and two FA Cups in five seasons with the Red Devils under Ferguson, was full of praise for his former boss.

“Sir Alex is a very strong man with a lot of personality. He’s one of the greatest managers in the world,” he told The Sun.

“Season after season he gets stronger and stronger. Even though he is getting older every year he still has the energy of a young man.”

“I like the way he handles situations. Sometimes you have a bad adventure, you don’t have a wonderful life every day.”

“You might lose a few games in a row or a very important game, but he is able to handle it.”

“And he looks at how he can use the situation to be even stronger the next day. He uses his experience to do so.”
