Fabio Capello was satisfied that his change of formation paid dividends as England comfortably defeated Wales 2-0 on Saturday.

England lined up with a 4-3-3 formation in the Euro 2012 qualifier, with Frank Lampard, Scott Parker and Jack Wilshere in midfield.Ahead of them in attack were Wayne Rooney and Ashley Young either side of centre-forward Darren Bent. The formation enabled England to control the game and take three valuable points from the Group G match at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium. “We played really well, we passed the ball quickly and created chances to score goals with no chances for Wales,” Capello said.”The goals that we scored were really nice and in every moment we were focused on the game which was important.””I decided, after watching games Wales have played, I decided for Parker and two midfielders.””I decided for a new position for Rooney and Ashley Young.””When we are defending they stay wide, when we have the ball Wayne comes in and it was a problem for Wales.””This formation is really good because some players like Ashley Young are improving a lot.”With England scoring both of their goals inside the opening 15 minutes, Wales captain Aaron Ramsey was left to bemoan falling behind so early.”We gave away two early goals and never recovered, we had a slow start. It left us too big a mountain to climb,” Ramsey said.”We showed glimpses of what we are capable of doing, but the pitch was quite dry and we could not get enough pace in our attacks but that’s no excuse, we had a slow start and it cost us.”
