Capello rules out Inter move

Fabio Capello says he does not want to succeed Claudio Ranieri as Inter coach and has denied holding talks with the Serie A club.

Capello stood down as England manager last month and was immediately linked with several major clubs across Europe.

Reports suggested he had met with Inter president Massimo Moratti, but the former Juventus and AC Milan coach has ruled out coaching the San Siro outfit.

“I heard that I met Moratti in London – it is a lie,” Capello told Sky Sport24. “I don’t know what I will do in the future but I can 100 percent rule out a future at Inter.”

The 65-year-old also denied any interest in taking charge of the Italian national team, declaring: “That’s another fantasy – absolutely not.”

Capello enjoyed two managerial stints at Inter’s city rivals Milan, winning four titles and one Champions League trophy with the club.

When asked about Milan talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a player he coached during his time in charge of Juventus, Capello said the Swede warrants comparison with club great Marco van Basten.

“Ibra (Ibrahimovic) is a player who can make the difference in every moment. When Ibra feels like playing, then he’s uncontrollable. He has strength and quality,” Capello said.

“Usually, the phenomenal players are short, but Ibra is tall, agile and he has a great technique. That’s not easy to find.”

“Van Basten lived for scoring. Ibra sometimes loses the ball because he wants to show something extra.”

“Technically, Van Basten and Ibra are identical, but Ibra tries to do the spectacular thing and there you see his Balkan origins.”
