(GSM) – England manager Fabio Capello has still to decide who will captain the team for the Euro 2012 qualifier with Montenegro at Wembley on October 12.
Rio Ferdinand was the captain before frequent injuries made him relinquish the armband to Steven Gerrard.
Now both Ferdinand and Gerrard must wait to see whether the former will be reinstalled as skipper or the latter will retain the captaincy after impressing in the role.
“I haven’t decided,” Capello said. “I can’t speak about who will be captain. I hope all the players will be fit and then I will announce it.”
He added: “Why not Ferdinand? No, no no. Wait. I can’t speak about if, if, if…”
Regarding Nemanja Vidic’s replacement of Ferdinand as Manchester United captain, Capello said: “I think Sir Alex decided on one player that played more games (Vidic) and be sure he is always fit. I think so.
“It is important always that the players have to be fit for a lot of games.”
Meanwhile Capello will be looking to convince Emile Heskey to come out of retirement to help solve England’s strike force problems.
“We will try to speak with Heskey,” Capello said We need him at this moment. He is in good form.”
However, Heskey has reportedly informed Capello’s assistant Franco Baldini that he intends to stick to his decision.
