(GSM) – Cardiff City are in pole position to sign out-of-favour Manchester City forward Craig Bellamy, according to reports.
The Championship club has been linked with a move for the Wales captain, who is not wanted at Eastlands following manager Roberto Mancini’s summer spending.
A Cardiff spokesman told PA Sport: “With the number and the names of the clubs being mentioned in connection to Craig it is flattering that we are an option, but at this stage it is pure speculation.
“Being connected to a player of this calibre shows how far we have come, to be even considered in a deal like this.
“We would love it to happen of course, but we are by no means alone in this.”
With Tottenham Hotspur manager admitting that a deal to take Bellamy to White Hart Lane is unlikey, PA Sport reckons the 31-year-old could soon complete a loan move to Cardiff.
Redknapp suggested Fulham would be a likely destination for Bellamy, but reports are now suggesting Cardiff are nearing a shock swoop for the Wales forward.
