Cardiff City have been ordered by the FIFA Players’ Status Committee to pay Nantes €6 million for the late Emiliano Sala. The Argentine forward tragically died in an airplane crash on 21 January, after the agreement between the two clubs that the player would be moving to Premier League.
But, before he made an appearance for City, the plane carrying Sala from France to Wales crashed and he was killed, along with pilot David Ibbotson. The striker just days before that became Cardiff’s record signing when a deal was struck with the Ligue 1 club eight months ago. But since the tragedy, the two clubs were in a dispute over payments for the transfer
Cardiff initially rejected to pay the full transfer fee of around £15m, because they felt it was not legally binding, with conditions insisted upon by Nantes were not fulfilled. The FIFA Players’ Status Committee said on Monday the €6m Nantes should receive from Cardiff is “corresponding to the first instalment due”.
