Carlise extend Derek Asamoah; Di Santo not for sale

League Two side Carlisle United have extended Derek Asamoah's initial one-month deal with the club until 4 January 2015.

League Two side Carlisle United have extended Derek Asamoah’s initial one-month deal with the club until 4 January 2015.

Asamoah, 33, has already scored twice in three substitute appearances for the Cumbrians, and manager Keith Curle is hoping the addition of the former Ghana international will the club avoid relegation for the second straight season.

“We know where we are with Derek and we’ve seen what he can bring to the squad,” Curle told the club’s official website.

“He isn’t the type of player who wants a contract based on bit-part appearances.

“He wants a little bit of stability and he now has an opportunity to really get going and hopefully build up his minutes on the pitch.

“I know him really well and I signed him in the past when his match fitness was completely there.

“He can cause all kinds of problems with his movement and know-how when he’s firing on all cylinders.

“He’s showing us more every day and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can produce as he goes on from here.”

If Asamoah can manage to stay fit, he will definitely provide a huge boost for Carlisle (4-3-9), who are currently in 22nd-place in the league table.

Di Santo not for sale

Werder Bremen general manager Thomas Eichin has revealed the club have no intention of selling Franco Di Santo in the January transfer window.

The former Chelsea forward, 25, has been absolutely fantastic since joining Bremen in the summer of 2013.

Since arriving in Germany, Di Santo has bagged 10 goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances and appears to be attracting interest from abroad ahead of the winter transfer window.

However, Bremen have not interest in selling their prized-asset, who is under contract at the Weserstadion until 30 June 2016, and rightly so.

“We are not interested in selling Franco Di Santo ahead of next season,” Eichin said. “We would like to work long-term with Franco.

“We will definitely talk to him about the future when we have a chance and try to work out a new deal.

“I am not surprised he is scoring a lot of goals. I always knew he was a deadly striker.”

Should Bremen receive an unbelievable offer for Di Santo in January, the club are fortunate enough to have the likes of Davie Selke, who won the UEFA European Under-19 Championship with Germany in the summer, and Nils Peterson.

Both Peterson and Selke are certainly capable of leading the line for the club. Nonetheless, do not expect a January departure for Di Santo.
