Spanish defender Carlos Cuellar has announced that he plans to leave Aston Villa at the end of the season.
The experienced defender has just a couple of months left on his deal at Villa Park and it looks as though he will not be signing a contract extension.
Villa boss Alex McLeish recently decided to shelve all contract talks for the end of the season, but Carlos Cuellar is not prepared to wait for a new contract offer.
After Aston Villa finally ensured Premier League survival with a 1-1 draw against Tottenham, the player decided to announce his plans for next season.
“Very happy because, after my last match at Villa Park, the team will stay one more year where it has to be,” Cuellar wrote on his Twitter account.
“Thank you for all your support both in the good and the bad moments through all these years.”
The 30-year-old joined Aston Villa in a €10 million deal from Rangers in August 2008 and has since enjoyed a lot of success in West Midlands.
The Spaniard has featured in 17 Premier League games this term, but failed to get on the scoresheet.
