With their sights firmly set on clinching the Western title outright this year, LAFC will travel to Children’s Mercy Park in the early hours of Thursday.

Starting with the hosts, putting in another lackluster display in their 2-0 loss away at Real Salt Lake last time out, Sporting KC find themselves in the midst of a real struggle. Freefalling down the Western Conference and with the chance to head into this weekend’s fixtures in bottom spot, Peter Vermes men have now picked up just a pair of victories since the end of March. A huge part of their continued issues has been down to their defensive struggles. With only two clean sheets to their name so far this season, the hosts have also conceded two or more goals in six of their last seven appearances on home soil.

As for the visitors, while Los Angeles may have suffered a shock 1-0 loss away at Colorado last weekend, Bob Bradley’s side still sit six points clear at the top of the West. Scoring 39 goals this season, the best return of any side in either Conference, one man who has continued to spearhead LAFC’s title charge has been former Arsenal striker, Carlos Vela. Enjoying a breakout year in America’s top-tier, the Mexico international has now recorded 17 goals in his 18 matches this season, the best return of any player this campaign. Given Sporting’s continued defensive issues, Vela should be relishing the chance to extend his goalscoring tally.
