Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick hopes the club can carry their recent form into the upcoming festive period.
United (6-4-3) dominated Hull City (2-5-6) from start to finish on Saturday at Old Trafford. The matched ended 3-0, securing United’s third consecutive English Premier League win, marking the first time in 11 months have achieved such a feat.
“It was a good performance and a good win,” Carrick told MUTV. “We controlled the game from the start and played some really good football. Hopefully they’ll be more of the same on Tuesday.”
Injuries have played a massive role in manager Louis van Gaal’s first season in charge at Old Trafford, but Carrick hopes the club can stay fit going forward.
Carrick added: “Our downfall this season is that we’ve had to change the team too much and we haven’t had a consistent run with this squad,” Carrick explained. “Hopefully that will change now and it’s nice to have a game so quick so we can keep that momentum going.
“It’s been strange in some ways [having no midweek games] compared to what we’ve been used to over the years but it’s something that we’ve got to grips with. It was a good performance and win against Hull but it’s behind us now and our focus is on Tuesday.”
LVG delighted with Saturday’s performance
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal was absolutely delighted with his side’s performance against Steve Bruce’s Hull City on Saturday.
The Dutchman was particularly happy with Ander Herrera’s contributions after the Spaniard came on for the injured Angel di Maria.
“I have to say Herrera came in and did fantastic, I was very pleased with how he did.” Van Gaal told MUTV. “He is a very fit player which is why I also let him play in the Reserves. I’m very happy for him because he needed a good performance.”
The former Holland boss added: “I was very pleased with our dominance in the whole game and also with our positional game. We scored three goals, created more chances, and we didn’t give any chances away – that’s very good.”
LVG was also happy to see Robin van Persie back in the goals. The Holland international scored one and set up another in a typically efficient performance.
“A striker needs to score goals and he scored a beautiful goal. I was very happy for him,” said Van Gaal.
United will host Stoke City in a must-win match on Tuesday before visiting St Mary’s to take on Southampton next Monday (8 December).
