Newcastle United have been linked with a summer move for Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick, according to the Metro.
The 34 year old is keen to stay at Old Trafford, but has not yet been offered a new contract and his current deal is set to expire at the end of the season.
This means that the North East side could be set to sign the England international on a free transfer in a move that would see him play for his home-town club.
Carrick moved to Manchester United from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2006 and recently made his four hundredth appearance for the club in all competitions while he has scored twenty-three goals.
He has won a whole host of major honours over the past decade including five Premier League titles, the League Cup and the Champions League while he has been capped thirty-four times for his country.
