Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has signed a new deal to keep him at Old Trafford until the end of the 2013/14 season.

Carrick, 29, began his career at West Ham but moved to Spurs in 2004 and spent two years at White Hart Lane before a 14 million-pound move to United in 2006.

“I am thoroughly enjoying my time at this great club,” Carrick said.

“There is a fantastic team spirit within the squad and I am pleased to have committed my future to United.”

“We are in a very good position at the moment and I am confident this team will be successful for many years to come.”

Carrick’s boss Sir Alex Ferguson was over the moon with the England international’s decision to stay in Manchester, joining Ryan Giggs and Patrice Evra in signing contract extensions this month.

“I am delighted Michael has signed a new contract,” Ferguson said.

“He has been outstanding since joining us from Tottenham in 2006. He is a true professional and it is great he has committed his future to the club.”
