Carroll linked with Spurs switch

The Mail Online understands that Andy Carroll has emerged as a shock target for Tottenham Hotspur.

The North London club are short on numbers going forward with top scorer Harry Kane out until at least March with an ankle injury while Son Heung-min is away at the Asian Cup.

To make matters worse for Mauricio Pochettino, Dele Alli has picked up a knock in Sunday’s come-from-behind win over Fulham so reinforcements could well come in before next Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Carroll, who has struggled with injury throughout his time with the Hammers is out contract in the summer and could be available this month having failed to hold down a regular starting place under manager Manuel Pellegrini.

He has started just two league games this season, and hasn’t scored in any of his nine appearances though he did net in the 2-0 win over Birmingham City in the third round of the FA Cup earlier this month.
