Lee Carsley hopes to get another shot at managing the England senior team following his interim spell last year.

Carsley oversaw six matches in charge of the Three Lions following Gareth Southgate’s departure.

A positive start in September saw Carsley tipped to get the job on a full-time basis, though Thomas Tuchel was ultimately confirmed as Southgate’s permanent successor.

Carsley at times hinted he did not want the job, and was looking forward to returning to his role in charge of the Under-21s.

Yet the former Republic of Ireland international hopes to get another chance down the line.

“It’s something that I enjoyed doing but ultimately, like I’ve said in the past, you’ve definitely got to earn the right to be in that position and I can only do my best,” Carsley told reporters.

“I feel happy and trusted doing what I’m doing so we will see what happens in the future.

“To get the last win at Wembley was a great feeling. It was a bit surreal then following that because I was coming off such a high and then going back to the day job.”

Carsley won five of his six Nations League games in charge, suffering a defeat to Greece in October.

He rounded out with a 5-0 thrashing of Ireland at Wembley Stadium.

England’s new era under Tuchel starts on Friday against Albania, with the German aiming to become the 11th consecutive permanent Three Lions boss to win their first game in charge.
