Casillas hits out at Sevilla fans

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has described the actions of bottle-throwing Sevilla fans as a dishonour to other supporters.

Casillas was helped from the pitch following Real’s 1-0 Copa del Rey semi-final win at Sevilla on Wednesday after being struck in the back of the head by a water bottle.

The Real custodian bore the brunt of an angry crowd inflamed by pre-match taunts levelled by Sevilla at their La Liga rivals.

These included a provocative television advert addressing Real with the threat: “We are going to leave you without a title.”

The slogan, in Portuguese, was clearly intended for Real manager Jose Mourinho, who was also depicted lying in a coffin in banners unfurled at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Casillas said he was disappointed to have been targeted by Sevilla fans and hoped video footage would lead to the perpetrators being dealt with.

“It is a shame that the fans have been wonderful helping their team, and then someone does this which causes problems for others,” Casillas told Real’s official website.

“If the cameras have caught the incident, I hope that action is taken.”

Casillas was far more pleased with his clean sheet at Sevilla, with Real carrying a valuable 1-0 aggregate into their semi-final home leg at the Bernabeu next Wednesday.

“It is a good result. We scored a goal and did not concede any,” the shot-stopper said.

“We had to be very careful against Sevilla because it is a good team with a lot of great offensive players.”

“The important thing for us is winning. We will now have to turn our attention to the league and taking on Osasuna, and then think about the second leg of the tie.”
