Iker Casillas says Real Madrid have now set their sights on winning next season’s Champions League after securing the Liga title.

Madrid beat Athletic Bilbao 3-0 at San Mames to win their 32nd Primera Division title on Wednesday, but Casillas is already looking ahead to next term and is full of ambition.

“It has been a long and hard season, but it’s time to celebrate now. We have made another step forward compared to last term. The next objective is the Champions League. We want to win that next season,” goalkeeper Casillas told reporters.

“I dedicate this title to all the Madridistas who dreamed of winning the Liga. It was very difficult to beat a team like Barcelona, but we have done it.

“Our Champions League exit still hurts, but we want to enjoy this success now.”

Meanwhile, Sergio Ramos is delighted at adding another La Liga crown to his collection but insisted he will do his utmost to hold onto the trophy this time.

“I am looking forward to going to Cibeles and holding the trophy, but I will take care not to drop it,” joked an elated Ramos.

“This is football. We’re very happy, after such a difficult league against an extraordinary Barca. (It was a) very demanding, long season.

“It has a lot of merit because it’s a long season and there are a lot of competitions. It’s my third league and I’m very happy.”

Madrid last won the Liga title in 2007-08 when they finished eight points clear of Villarreal, but Pep Guardiola’s Barca then claimed the following three championships.

Madrid were crowned as champions with two games to spare and will travel to Granada on Saturday.
