Porto’s Iker Casillas has renewed his contract with the Portuguese champions for another year, the club have confirmed via their official website.
Cassillas played for Real Madrid for 16 years, accumulating 725 appearances for them in all competitions and winning every major trophy on multiple occasions. He has also won two European Championships and a World Cup with Spain, and he’s rightly considered a legend of Spanish football.
Now approaching his 37th birthday, there have been plenty of speculations about his future, with Liverpool being the most frequent link as manager Jürgen Klopp seeks an experienced addition to his goalkeeping department. But now, Casillas has put an end to all such guesswork by committing to Porto for another year.
He told the club’s website that despite the rumours, his intention had always been to renew his contract with Porto and stay at the club and in the city that have both welcomed him warmly from the moment he arrived.
