(GSM) – Sampdoria striker Antonio Cassano has committed his future to the club on the eve of their Champions League adventure.
The 28-year-old will lead Samp into Europe when they face Werder Bremen in Germany on Wednesday in the first leg of their play-off.
Despite reports linking him with a move to Serie A champions Internazionale as a replacement for the departed Mario Balotelli, Cassano insists he is happy with Domenico Di Carlo’s side.
In response to the rumours, Cassano told La Gazzetta dello Sport: “Inter are not weakened, because they have so many champions. But Italian football will be missing an important player.
“For me, the chances (of joining Inter) are zero. If the president Riccardo Garrone believes differently, I don’t know.
“I want to finish my career here. At Samp I’m fine, I feel like a king. The most important thing in life is happiness and here I have found it.”
Werder head into the match with their own off-field distractions as the future of playmaker Mesut Ozil remains in doubt.
Coach Thomas Schaaf expects to be without the Germany international and is under pressure not to cup-tie the player as he seemingly moves ever closer to a move to one of Europe’s major players.
“You want all your players to play, but all the time it seems more difficult,” said Schaaf.
