Catania ended Atalanta's 100 percent start to the Serie A season with a 1-0 victory in Sicily on Saturday.
Michele Paolucci scored the only goal of the game on 59 minutes but fingers will be pointed at Atalanta goalkeeper Ferdinando Coppola for his mistake.
The victory — Catania's second in three matches — moves the Sicilians up to second place in the table for a day at least, with Atalanta dropping to third.
Catania had the better of the first half and Japanese forward Takayuki Morimoto should have given them the lead in first half added time.
He met a left-wing cross from Rocco Sabato with a precise side-foot volley but guided it just wide of the near post.
Just before the hour mark Giuseppe Mascara released Paolucci in the inside left channel and the striker beat Coppola at his near post with a shot that didn't even have any great power behind it.
Midway through the second half Atalanta introduced Diego De Ascentis to the fray and he immediately forced Albano Bizarri into a smart save.
Sergio Floccari should have snatched a point for the visitors in injury time but he missed the target with a free header from just seven yards out.
