Paris Saint Germain forward Edinson Cavani is closing in on a £50m transfer to Chelsea, according to the Metro.
The Uruguay international, who has long been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, only arrived in the French capital last summer, but has become frustrated with his role under manager Laurent Blanc, who often deploys him out wide to accommodate star man Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Chelsea are keen to bring in a centre forward when the transfer window reopens, with their current selection of strikers – Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba managing just eleven goals between them in the league so far this season.
Eto’o is out of contract in the summer; while Ba and Romelu Lukaka, who is currently on loan at Everton, are both expected to be moved on to accommodate a new arrival.
Wayne Rooney, who had been a target of Blues boss Jose Mourinho, is closing in on a new contract with Manchester United.
