Edinson Cavani is open to extending his contract with Manchester United, according to Fabrizio Romano, who adds that the 20-time English champions are finally confident of getting him to put his name on the dotted line.
The 34-year-old striker joined United as a free agent from Paris Saint-Germain last year on a one-year deal, and has gone on to score 12 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions so far. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer always maintained that he himself and the club were keen for Cavani to stay past the summer, but claims appeared over the last few month, supposedly from the player’s father, that he would rather leave England and play for Boca Juniors for a few years before retiring.
However, the situation seems to have changed if there was ever any truth in such rumours. Nothing has been signed yet, but Cavani is now expected to accept United’s offer.
Cavani scored twice and produced two assists as United beat AS Roma 6-2 in the first leg of their Europa League semifinal clash on Thursday.
