Cavani’s message – a farewell to PSG?

Paris Saint-Germain beat Galatasaray by 5-0 in the last round of the Champions League group stages, with the five goals being scored by five different players – Mauro Icardi, Pablo Sarabia, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguay international had just come on from the bench 20 minutes from time with the score-line standing at 4-0, and his team were awarded a penalty in the 84th. Neymar took the ball and – handed it to Cavani, who made no mistake from the spot.

The 32-year-old’s contract with PSG is due to expire at the end of the season, and it is expected that he will leave the club. Quite understandably, speculations about it sky-rocketed, asking the question if Neymar’s gesture was in fact a form of honoring a player about to depart.

Cavani himself subsequently posted the following message on Twitter, in Spanish and Italian:

“Unforgettable to see and feel what happened yesterday in the Park. I will take it forever with me.”

The message certainly adds fuel to the fire, and Cavani’s days at the Parc des Princes seem numbered. He has been linked with a return to Napoli, but Atletico Madrid are reportedly also interested his services.
