(GSM) – Bordeaux striker Fernando Cavenaghi has completed his loan move to Primera Division outfit Mallorca.
The Argentine striker, who has been at the French club for three years, admits the move was necessary as he looks for regular first-team football.
Cavenaghi is happy to have renewed his Bordeaux deal before moving to Spain in order to increase his transfer fee for Bordeaux.
The Argentine emphasized that it is the “right time” to leave as he looks for a new challenge in his playing career.
“I didn’t want to leave Bordeaux without the club getting some money back,” he told L’Equipe.
“I had a great relationship with the chairman (Jean-Louis Triaud) and that is why I accepted a one-year extension.
“I won everything at Bordeaux, but now is the right time to leave.
“There is no link between my departure and new coach Jean Tigana. I told the chairman that Tigana is a very good coach and I like the way he works.
“But, despite an offer from England, I wanted to move to Spain. I have always dreamt of playing in La Liga.”
Cavenaghi insists he chose Mallorca without any hesitation.
“When the Mallorca offer arrived, I had no hesitation and didn’t need to be asked twice. I decided to seize this new challenge.
“I would have liked to have stayed at Bordeaux, to say goodbye properly, but I will always hold fond memories of my time at the club and of the fans.”
