French media outlet L’Equipe is reporting that Europa League semi-finalists Celta Vigo have reached an agreement to sign Uruguayan defender Maxi Gomez from Defensor Sporting.
The Sky Blues have had a €4 million proposal accepted, whereas the Uruguayan club will also be entitled to a percentage of future transfer fee, believed to be between 15% and 20%.
Serie A side Udinese were also keen on the player’s signature, but it is now clear that he will be joining Celta Vigo.
Maxi Gomez is a centre forward who has has enjoyed an incredible start to his senior career, and he has so far scored 27 goals in 46 league appearances.
The 20-year-old netted 10 times in 12 competitive outings this term, although two red cards somewhat marred his campaign.
His suitors Celta Vigo head to Old Trafford on Thursday hoping to overturn a one-goal deficit from the first leg and they can be backed at 11/2 to qualify for the final.
