Celtic defender Kelvin Wilson believes his team need a longer break after an exhausting season on all fronts.
The English centre-back has been a key player for Neil Lennon’s side, who will face UEFA Champions League qualifying games as soon as mid-July.
The Scottish
champions will have to report back for pre-season training in late June in
order to prepare for another European adventure.
The 27-year-old,
who has been rested recently by Lennon, said: “It is a physical sport and
I am starting to feel it a bit.
“It was nice
to get that break and I benefited from it. I think we needed it, but we
probably needed more than 10 days.
“There is
nothing we can do about it. The fitness people here will try to manage it as
best they can, but it is not enough.
“We can’t moan
about it, other teams will have to come back for the qualifiers so we will just
get on with it. We will deal with it, we will be fine.”
The former
Nottingham Forest player has enjoyed an impressive season after struggling to
adapt when he first moved in the summer of 2011.
He added: “I
have got used to it and when you are doing well on the pitch you are pretty
much happy off the pitch. The season has been long, but enjoyable.”
