Liverpool have identified Celtic central defender Kristoffer Ajer as a potential transfer target this summer, according to The Daily Star. It has been reported that the Norway international – who can also play as a defensive midfielder – is in the sights of manager Jurgen Klopp.
Although Liverpool have a strong team, the Premier League champions could do with another central defender, with Dejan Lovren having left for Zenit Saints Petersburg earlier this summer. Although the former Southampton centre-back was more or less a fringe player for most of last season, the Reds do need to sign a replacement to maintain a strong squad.
However, Ajer is an important player for Celtic, who are aiming to make it 10 Scottish Premiership titles in a row this season. The Glasgow giants may not want to lose the 22-year-old Norwegian centre-back, as that could affect their chances of creating history this campaign.
