Celtic are interested in signing Benjamin Siegrist from Dundee United in the January transfer window, according to The Daily Mail. It has been reported that the defending Scottish Premiership champions are looking to bring in a new goalkeeper next month after summer signing Vasilis Barkas’s less than impressive performances so far this season.
Barkas has not been in great form for the Glasgow giants so far this campaign, with Celtic manager Neil Lennon having to play Scott Bain and Conor Hazard at times. Celtic scouts have reportedly watched Siegris a number of times already this season, with the goalkeeper available for £1 million in January.
The Daily Mail has quoted Siegrist’s agent, Dr Thomas Kraft, as saying that Celtic have scouted the 28-year-old Swiss goalkeeper several times, but the Glasgow giants have yet to make an official offer. The Hoops are second in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 34 points from 15 matches, as many 16 points behind leaders and bitter Old Firm rivals Rangers, who have played 18 games.
