Highly rated Romania midfielder Ovidiu Popescu is a transfer target for Scottish champions Celtic, the Daily Record has reported.
Celtic representatives were in Bucharest at the weekend, watching the 23-year-old Steaua playmaker in action in the derby match against Dinamo Bucharest whereas Steaua owner George Becali has already confirmed that talks have been held with the Hoops over the potential summer transfer.
Popescu joined Steaua from Poli Timisoara last season when he signed a bumper six-year contract with the Romanian giants.
The versatile midfielder, who can also be employed at right back, has emerged as one of the best players in the Romanian League, prompting the Steaua owner to inter an £8 million release clause into his contract.
Ovidiu Popescu has been described as one of the most exciting prospects to come from Romania in years and Steaua are unlikely to let their prized asset leave for any less than the predetermined amount.
