(GSM) – Celtic boss Neil Lennon has dismissed reports suggesting that the SPL side are keen on signing Aston Villa midfielder Stephen Ireland on loan in January.
The Republic of Ireland international, who arrived at Villa Park from Manchester City in the summer, has had a less favourable time with the Birmingham side leading to speculation of a move away from the Premier League side.
Ireland, who was left out of the Villa squad that beat West Bromwich Albion, is set to hold talks with boss Gerard Houllier over his future later this week.
Despite the uncertainty, Lennon believes defenders are his priority not the 24-year-old in next month’s transfer window.
“We are looking at areas where we can improve the squad but I wouldn’t say he (Ireland) is a candidate or anything like that,” said Lennon.
“There is a lot of names being thrown at us from clubs and agents and it would be unfair to talk about individuals.”
